In 1946, to match the intense environment and the stature of its larger then life guests, the hotel commissioned the legendary coachbuilders Hess & Eisenhardt (S&S) of Rossmoyne, Ohio—the same craftsmen trusted to construct limousines for U.S. Presidents to hand build this imposing six-door Fleetwood Cadillac limousine with the sole purpose to ferry dignitaries from the Great Northern Railway station to its doors. It was a bespoke masterpiece of post-war engineering, designed for power, presence, and uncompromising comfort.

The billionaire aviator and Hollywood mogul, Howard Hughes, was at the height of his influence—and his eccentricity in 1947. Seeking a sanctuary from the relentless flashbulbs of Los Angeles and government investigations, Mr. Hughes sought refuge in the severe isolation of the Canadian Rockies. Inspired by his visit, the limousine took on the namesake “Howard,” synonymous with intrigue, discretion, and quiet power.
